Founded in 1858, the Geologists' Association (GA) is a charitable organization that exists for all geologists and earth scientists, both professional and amateur, bringing together enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds to meet people with similar interests. Every year, the GA organizes a programme of evening lectures and other scientific meetings, an annual Festival of Geology and regular UK and overseas field trips. We publish a lively news Magazine, a series of guide books to UK and overseas locations and a professional scientific journal, the Proceedings of the Geologists’ Association.
The GA is strongly committed to encouraging “Geology For All”. We recognize the contributions of amateur and professional earth scientists through the award of medals and prizes and are actively engaged in the public dissemination of science and diverse outreach initiatives. Rockwatch, the nationwide geology club and junior branch of the GA, engages thousands of children and their families each year in hands-on events and fieldtrips. The GA also supports geological research through its diverse grants programme and through the Curry Fund, has provided some £250,000 over the past 20 years to fund initiatives in geological conservation, education and research around the country.
